Houston Chronicle: Samir vs. Arnold Schwarzennegger https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/houston-chronicle-samir-vs-arnold-schwarzennegger/ https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/houston-chronicle-samir-vs-arnold-schwarzennegger/#respond Thu, 31 Jan 2019 17:15:28 +0000 http://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/?p=14716 Yesterday, the Houston Chronicle boldly exclaimed that Houston may have it’s own Arnold to get it’s citizens blood pumping!

Our founder, and author of ReSYNC Your Life, Samir Becic was recently named Houston’s “fitness guru” by Mayor Sylvester Turner to promote physical wellness in the city. Among his other many accomplishments, Becic is known for completing extreme challenges involving a weight vest. Last year, he ran seven marathons in eight weeks with a 73.5-pound vest equivalent.

In the interview, Samir talks about the parallels between his new title and the one bestowed onto Arnold Schwarzenegger by then President Bush Sr. in the 90’s to promote fitness to Americans.

Becic hopes to expand on Arnold’s method of making fitness more than just physical improvement. “Arnold had that [holistic] approach to a healthy lifestyle, where fitness is not always about the physical body but about success in life,” he said. “It’s a driving force.”

To Samir, it’s not about wearable tech or fancy running shoes, it’s about helping people gain strength and mental wellness naturally. Small, gradual improvements- like drinking more water and walking more.

Samir’s Health Fitness Revolution Declares War Against Obesity https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/samirs-health-fitness-revolution-declares-war-against-obesity/ https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/samirs-health-fitness-revolution-declares-war-against-obesity/#respond Sat, 10 Jun 2017 15:04:20 +0000 http://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/?p=7152 Samir Becic and the Health Fitness Revolution movement declare war against obesity in light of recent JAMA Internal Medicine report.

Following the recent report by JAMA Internal Medicine that stated the number of obese Americans outnumber merely overweight Americans.

“Obesity is one of the biggest threats to American society right now,” Becic said. “We must understand the magnitude of this discovery. For that reason, I am declaring, along with my Health Fitness Revolution movement, a war against obesity.”

Samir Becic, a world-renowned fitness expert boasting numerous accolades, is one of the most prominent authorities in the health and fitness industry. He has garnered worldwide media attention, is consistently ranked as one of the world’s best fitness experts and is a recurring guest author for many national and international media outlets.

He plans to aggressively lead the fight against the obesity epidemic and called for Americans to rally with him in this united front. He personally invites the president of the United States, senators, congresspeople, governors, mayors, media personalities and celebrities, athletes, CEOs, schoolteachers, nonprofit organizations, and everyone else to join him in this crucial fight for America’s continuation as a leading world power.

“We must protect our best values,” he said. “We must protect our children and ensure they are healthy and fit. They will be our future scientists, businessmen and CEOs, artists, and military, political and humanitarian leaders. They will be the reason why this great country will continue to flourish.”

Becic is glad several presidents have also addressed this issue.

He quoted President John F. Kennedy, who said, “Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity.”

Furthermore, George W. Bush also said, “Exercise is so important that corporate America should help its employees make time. There should be flextime for families, and there should be flextime for exercise. A healthy workforce is a more productive workforce. We have got to do a better job of encouraging exercise in America.”

Becic also cautioned against the implications of having an obese society.

“Obesity will impact social interaction, financial stability, military strength, creativity, discipline and focus. It will collide with all attributes that make our civilization what it is today,” he said.

His call to action urged Americans to live a balanced lifestyle, incorporating exercise and healthy nutrition, as well as mental, social and spiritual health into every individual’s way of life. He said the war on obesity demands a strong and fit United States, a nation that he hopes will lead the world for decades to come.

His plan has an all-encompassing strategy that has included speaking with and motivating president, government officials, cardinals and other religious leaders, businessmen and superintendents in direct meetings to support his cause. Becic has spoken to thousands of schools, homeless shelters, corporations, churches and nonprofit organizations.

Health Fitness Revolution Promotes Physical Education in Schools https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/health-fitness-revolution-promotes-physical-education-in-schools/ https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/health-fitness-revolution-promotes-physical-education-in-schools/#respond Thu, 08 Jun 2017 15:22:43 +0000 http://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/?p=12357 Physical education is disappearing from American schools, with disastrous consequences for our children. Politicians and administrators put gym and recess on the chopping block to keep the budget lower. That’s where Health Fitness Revolution comes in. Our organization teaches children how to live a healthy lifestyle and motivating them to be active. We at Health Fitness Revolution 501(c)(3) hold school seminars that give children the opportunity to hear what they aren’t learning in class.

Earlier this year we wrote an opinion piece on the value of gym class. It turns out that P.E. acts as a multiplier on student performance, improving academic performance and student behavior. Take a University of Georgia study that found 60 minutes of exercises benefits information processing, or a Stanford report that reports a positive link between activity and creative thinking.

That’s why our seminars are so important. Samir Becic channels his motivational skills into energetic and informative presentations that convey the value of an active lifestyle. Convincing children to pursue activity teaches them how it translates to academic performance and well-being.

But there’s more on the line than just good grades and job prospects. Childhood obesity is the largest threat facing America’s children. 1/3 are overweight or obese, leading to an unprecedented rise in type 2 diabetes, heart problems, and other preventable illnesses.

Schools are supposed to be places of learning, but they are failing to teach children the health skills they need to avoid this fate. We intervene with information about the joys and benefits of healthy eating. Often, it is the first time kids are exposed to real practical advice about how to eat right. We teach them that eating right and avoiding sugary options can have massive benefits on their life. Some are immediate, like increased confidence, concentration, and cognition, while long-term benefits can save their life.

Help us deliver even more student seminars across the country! If it were up to us, every child would have access to healthy food and plenty of active time. As that’s not the case, we want to at least expose kids to the benefits of a healthy style. We are currently averaging around $30,000 a year in donations. With that amount of money, we have managed to provide about $3 million worth of service. Together we can make America’s children healthier and set the future generation up for success!

With the advent of the NFL season starting soon and the start of the academic year for students looking to go professional or get recruited for their athletic talents, Samir Becic, founder of Health Fitness Revolution and renowned fitness expert, warns all athletes to avoid the unauthorized use of steroids.

“If steroids were good for your health, then I’d be the first one using them – but they’re not,” Becic said. “And until then, I’m warning everyone to stay away from steroids.”

A few of the short and long-term health effects of using steroids results include infertitlity, heart and circulatory problems, mood swings, and increased risk for ADD and alcoholism. Despite this, Becic says he and “every single fitness expert and those who work in athletic circles know that steroid abuse is rampant among athletes.”

As a result of league rules and play suspensions and increased competitiveness, many athletes will discretely use steroids. It doesn’t help that they are under an undue amount of pressure to preform well.

“A majority of athletes will vehemently deny using steroids, yet fitness professionals can easily determine whether an athlete is using steroids or not,” Becic said. “The athletes who are training naturally have a longer playing life and will be healthier as they age. It’s not just about the money, but about long-term health as well, because no money can buy your health in old age.”

Regardless, very often, athletes have injuries related to torn ligaments and tendons. A 2009 article from Scientific American revealed 9 percent of anonymously surveyed former professional football players participated in steroid use, particularly positions that required athletic strength and muscle size such as linemen. Roughly twice as many steroid users suffered herniated disks or elbow injuries versus non-steroid users.

Becic revealed a list of health effects of steroid use:
-Aggressive behaviors, rage or violence
-Psychiatric disorders, such as depression
-Increased risk of tendinitis and tendon rupture
-Liver abnormalities and tumors
-Increased low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol (the “bad” cholesterol)
-Decreased high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol (the “good” cholesterol)
-Testicular Shrinkage
-High blood pressure (hypertension)
-Prostate gland enlargement
-Drug dependence
-Joint pain
-Muscle weakness
-Fluid retention
-Carpal tunnel syndrome
-Impaired glucose regulation
-Cardiomyopathy
-Infections or diseases such as HIV or hepatitis if you’re injecting the drugs
-Inhibited growth and development, and risk of future health problems in teenagers

“I wish the NFL would place more stringent testing for steroid use within the sport, because their athletes are not only destroying their health, but they are also cheating the system and not playing fair,” urges Becic.

Samir Ups Vest Weight to Grueling 150lbs in Obesity Campaign https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/raising-obesity-awareness-samir-ups-weight-150lbs/ https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/raising-obesity-awareness-samir-ups-weight-150lbs/#respond Wed, 26 Oct 2016 18:10:47 +0000 http://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/?p=12574 This Monday Samir once again upped the weight on his vest. With the latest weight additions, Samir wore an additional 150lbs on his torso and body. Samir has been wearing the vest to raise awareness about the obesity epidemic in America, which currently affects 34% of the population.

While Samir has bore all the additional weight in stride, he commented that 150lbs had severe mental and physiological effects. He noted that the pain did not subside even after wearing the vest for hours. He felt consequences ranging from acid reflux to shortness of breath.

The side effects represent real challenges obese people face every day. Obesity impairs mobility and increases fatigue, posing a significant challenge to overall quality of life on a daily basis.

Worse yet are the long-term consequences. Researchers aggregated 20 studies and found that “extreme obesity,” the type Samir is recreating at 150lbs, shortens adult lifespan by as much as 6 and 1/2 years. The most extreme cases could result in a reduction of almost 14 years.

Decreased life expectancy is attributed to a number of chronic illnesses that come with obesity. Obese people are at risk of diabetes, heart disease, and many types of cancer. So many millions are at risk of these diseases, yet politicians ignore preventative care. Samir wants to draw attention to the issue to motivate national leaders to intervene and promote healthy lifestyle.

To keep up with Samir’s campaign, follow his Facebook page and check back here!

He has been carrying around progressively heavier weight over the course of the last month to recreate the added duress of morbid obesity. The added weight brought his total weight up to 328lbs and mimicked a living weight of over 450lbs.

Right now more than 34% of Americans are obese. More than 6% are extremely obese, which means they carry more than 100lbs of extra weight with them. Doctors estimate this shortens the lifespan by as much as 6 1/2 years by causing a variety of illnesses.

Samir stressed that the cheapest and most effective way to prevent illness is through a healthy lifestyle: “We need to motivate our politicians to start caring more about physical fitness and healthy nutrition. They need to talk more about preventative medicine.” Exercise and diet can save lives and health care costs. As such, Samir believes that politicians owe it to America to address the issue.

Watch Samir’s entire 3 miles walk below!

On the walk, Samir explained his mission to passersby and thousands of Facebook viewers. He stressed that he was using extreme fitness to garner attention to this important issue, but that just walking and being active is a huge step for your health. Facebook fans asked him questions about fitness, which Samir answered while walking the 3 miles.

He hoped to motivate people to get exercise even if they are living with obesity. “Please join me on a small walk for a couple hundred meters or yards. Drink some water. Eat an apple. Start your day with a healthy activity!”

3rd Week/130lbs: Samir Becic Increases Vest Weight https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/3rd-week130lbs-samir-becic-increases-vest-weight/ https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/3rd-week130lbs-samir-becic-increases-vest-weight/#respond Tue, 18 Oct 2016 17:00:04 +0000 http://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/?p=12504 For the third consecutive week, Samir Becic is wearing additional weight to raise awareness about the obesity epidemic in the United States. This week he upped the vest weight to 130lbs, for a living weight of 500lbs. He is on the track to break a world record.

Samir started the challenge earlier this month by donning a 50lb vest. At first, he wore all the weight in an over-the-shoulder vest. Now, he’s strapped 130lbs to his ankles, wrists, waist, shoulders, and chest.

Living With Obesity

The challenge is pushing Samir to the limit of his pain tolerance. He’s documented his mental and physiological distress via Facebook live videos and plans to continue upping the weight. He is coping with aches in his shoulders and back.

Samir is undertaking the challenge to draw attention to morbid obesity. Currently, 1 in 3 US adults are obese and 6% are extremely obese. Living with obesity shortens lifespan by 6 1/2 years and disrupts daily life. It makes movement difficult and exercise a serious challenge.

By wearing the extra weight, Samir is empathizing with obese people. Few health professionals know the challenges and burdens of morbid obesity. Samir hopes to understand the challenges of living a healthy lifestyle while obese. He is also showing that you can exercise and make healthy choices. He’s continuing his daily workouts.

So show Samir your support as he attempts to push on for a Guinness World Record!

Here is a video of him training with the extra weight:

Right now 1 in 3 Americans is obese, so they have to carry an extra 50lb with them everywhere they go. Some have to carry much more than that. The extra weight impairs mobility and increases fatigue, making life harder for even the simplest daily activities. This public health crisis needs attention, with more resources dedicated to nutrition education and physical fitness.

That’s why Samir Becic is walking a mile in the shoes of the obese. At a starting weight of 204lbs, Samir is executing a 3 stage plan wearing heavier weight each time. For the past two days Samir has worn a 50lb weighted vest day and night. He is documenting his physiological and mental distresses caused by the extra weight via video on social media. He will finish out the week in a 50lb vest.

Then Samir will wear a 100lb vest day and night for 1 week.

Then he will wear a 150lb vest everywhere day and night for 1 week, bringing his total weight up to 350lbs.

At 350lbs, Samir will fall into the category of “extremely obese,” joining 6% of the US population who is over 100 lbs above the healthy weight classification and have on average 6 1/2 year shorter lifespan.

Health Fitness Revolution Helps Homeless Community https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/health-fitness-revolution-helps-homeless-community/ https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/health-fitness-revolution-helps-homeless-community/#respond Fri, 30 Sep 2016 21:15:40 +0000 http://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/?p=12374 Mental health is a major component of health and fitness. But sadly, America lacks the mental health resources needed to get everyone the help they need. As a result, vulnerable people suffer without the guidance of mental health professionals and necessary medication. Many of these people end up on the street and become homeless, compounding their psychological distress and exposing them to a host of other health issues. Health Fitness Revolution is there to help, providing advice and advocating for better mental health resources.

Fitness and Mental Health

Exercise is an effective method of combatting the side effects of mental health issues. Research confirms that exercise provides therapeutic benefits for those suffering from everything from anxiety to substance abuse issues.

A 2013 study published in the Journal of Preventative Medicine & Public Health found that “in an adult US population, regular physical activity is associated with a significantly decreased prevalence of current major depression, panic disorder, agoraphobia, social phobia, and specific phobia.” The study goes on to conclude that exercise had demonstrable benefits on physical, subjective and disorder-specific clinical outcomes.

So what does this mean for the homeless community?

According to the National Coalition for the Homeless, 25% of the adult homeless population suffers from a mental disability. Their illnesses keep them in the cycle of homelessness and interfere with aspects of their daily life. There are precious few resources available to help combat mental illness. By teaching the homeless community the value of physical activity, we empower them to alleviate some of the side-effects of mental illness.

HFR Teaches Importance of Exercise

Of course, you don’t have to be mentally ill to benefit from education about physical activity. All members of the homeless community benefit from exercise and physical activity, which is not only healthy but fosters a sense of purpose and togetherness.

That’s why Samir Becic and HFR have participated in a number of initiatives to benefit homeless community. These range from creating fitness programs in shelters to community walks with the homeless, to help teach healthy nutrition and mental health. We are currently working on a big project- stay tuned!

Your donations help us impact the homeless community, by raising awareness about mental health and providing aid to those who live with mental illness.

Health Fitness Revolution Is A Driving Force Behind Houston Health & Nutrition https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/health-fitness-revolution-driving-force-behind-houston-health-nutrition/ https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/health-fitness-revolution-driving-force-behind-houston-health-nutrition/#respond Thu, 29 Sep 2016 08:48:45 +0000 http://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/?p=12362 Houston is not regarded as a shining beacon of health and nutrition. Year after year we hold the unenviable title of “Fattest City in America.” But Mayor Sylvester Turner plans to change that, and we’re here to help as a local non-profit organization.

Over the past 12 years, HFR founder Samir Becic has been a leading voice in the mission to make Houstonians healthy. Our first priority is to improve nutrition, and especially to educate children on the importance of eating a healthy diet. That’s why we go to schools and educate children on the value of proper nutrition. But we need your help to continue our mission.

The Surprising Link Between Food & Learning

Nutrition and educational performance are intimately connected. For a while we assumed that the food was nothing more than energy that keeps children fueled up to get through the day. Recent breakthroughs in molecular biology reveal that the link between the two runs much deeper.

Research by Dr. Gomez-Pinilla, a neuroscientist and UCLA professor of physiological science, paints a strong link between diet and cognitive ability. Gomez-Pinilla’s research proves that children who eat a diet rich in Omega-3 fatty acids (found in healthy foods) improve memory and learning, having a positive correlation with improved reading, spelling, and classroom behavior. Conversely, the trans fat common in the junk foods haunting American cafeterias negatively affect cognition, “increasing the risk of neurological dysfunction.”

The good doctor’s suggestion? Feed children a healthier diet.

A Growing Epidemic

Unfortunately, that’s a task that is easier said than done. The food industry, and sugar and beverage companies in particular, are willing to do anything to get their products into the hands of children. That includes funding misleading research and lobbying politicians.

The result of this reckless manipulation? Increased learning disorders and a public health crisis, as 1/3 of American children are now overweight or obese. The childhood obesity epidemic has caused an explosion in type 2 diabetes in children. In 1994 only 5% of type 2 diagnosis were children. Now 20% of all type 2 diabetes diagnoses are children.

This needs to stop. Health Fitness Revolution helps by educating children to make the right nutritional choices. We teach them that eating healthy can be fun and lifesaving. Many children receive no nutrition education, so Samir’s energetic and informative seminars empower them to make choices that could save their lives. But we need your help. Donate to help us increase our capacity to enact change.

Press Release: Samir Becic To Devise Fitness Program For Mars Colonists https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/samir-becic-devise-fitness-program-mars-colonists/ https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/samir-becic-devise-fitness-program-mars-colonists/#respond Tue, 14 Jun 2016 15:57:56 +0000 http://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/?p=11760 Health Fitness Revolution founder and renowned fitness expert Samir Becic announced that he will begin intensive research and development of new fitness methodology devised specifically for the health and prosperity of Mars colonists.

Becic pledged to launch a new website dedicated to aggregating research on Mars. The site will be a resource for future colonists, and will be a platform for health and fitness experts worldwide to problem solve fitness.

Because Mars has a different gravitational pull and extreme environmental conditions, a new fitness regimen must be devised with different techniques to preserve the proper function of the human body. Fitness and healthy lifestyle must be more aggressive, and Samir use his expertise to overcome some of these challenges. The issues extend beyond just fitness, and impact other areas of health.

This announcement follow’s Space X founder Elon Musk’s speech at Code Conference 2016, in which he outlined his plans to develop a mission to Mars. Musk plans to launch an unmanned mission to Mars by 2018, and hopes to have the first manned mission by 2024.

Samir Becic wants to apply his expertise in fitness to aid in the development of new fitness devices and machines that are specifically devised for the Mars environment that are very different than the ones used on earth.

Samir says “Elon Musk is a visionary who can bring humanity to the next stage of our evolution, and I hope to contribute my expertise to support his mission. I have been interested in space exploration since I was a child reading Arthur Clarke and watching Star Trek, and I agree with Stephen Hawking when he claims that humanity’s only chance for long term survival is to colonize different planets.”

The new site will launch in the next few months.

Bio: Samir Becic is an internationally acclaimed health and fitness professional and received four “#1 Fitness Trainer in the World/US” honors for Bally Total Fitness, where he was fitness director of the largest fitness facility in the entire United States. In 2011, Samir Becic used his extensive knowledge of health and fitness to found Health Fitness Revolution, a movement that aims to spread the message of health and fitness throughout the world in order to prevent disease and improve quality of life. To better accomplish his goal, Becic founded Health Fitness Revolution magazine, the fastest growing health and fitness magazine in the US and the first magazine to rank US politicians on fitness. The lists, such as Fittest Heads of State, attract national and international media attention.

Petition to the Presidential Candidates: Address Obesity in Presidential Debate https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/petition-to-the-presidential-candidates-address-obesity-in-presidential-debate/ https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/petition-to-the-presidential-candidates-address-obesity-in-presidential-debate/#respond Wed, 09 Mar 2016 23:13:23 +0000 http://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/?p=10257

To support HFR founder Samir Becic’s Petition, please sign it at Change.org.

I would like to know when the presidential candidates and the debate moderators will address the obesity epidemic in the United States?

My name is Samir Becic and I have worked in the health and fitness industry in America for the past 15 years. During that time I advocated for healthy living and created Health Fitness Revolution to help spread my message. Sadly, my time in the field has shown me how deep America’s obesity problem has become and what it means for everyone in this country.

36% of Americans are obese, including 115 million people and 17% of our nation’s children. This is a human tragedy with very real consequences for those affected. According to the CDC, obesity causes an increased risk for a number of diseases including high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, coronary heart disease, stroke, cancer, mental illnes and death.

The obesity crisis is intimately intwined in politics. Lobbyist influence, nutritional policy, and health and wellness initiatives impact the health of this country and can contribute to or prevent obesity. Children are particularly vulnerable to political machinations and the decisions of those who do not have their best interest at heart. They are also the demographic that has a steadily increasing rate of Diabetes Type 2.

As it stands now, obesity spending is expected to cost the country$344 billion by 2018. Healthcare reform has figured prominently this election cycle, yet the candidates and media have been silent about the obesity crisis and the terrible human and financial costs it is inflicting on America.

As an experienced health and fitness professional, I am calling on the debate moderators to raise this important issue in the presidential debates so the candidates can clearly and decisively state what their administration would do to address the rising rates of American obesity, and how they would improve our nation’s health.

Obesity, morbid obesity, and super obesity are sapping our nation’s potential by straining human potential. We need to fight this illness with all the power we have in order for our children to have a better future, and in order for those suffering from morbid obesity to have a second chance at life.

  • Stay hydrated by drinking water
  • Drink healthy juices and shakes
  • Get plenty of cardio by walking outside or on the treadmill

What is one Tankard’s favorite healthy snack? She loves juice made of kale, lemon, ginger, apples and beats.

Becic says he is honored that he is one of the few men invited to the conference. He believes that the strong women of today are improving our society on every level. He said it was inspirational to see women in leading positions, ranging from judges to entrepreneurs to entertainers, speak at the conference and support women’s empowerment.

Why The Hunza Lifespan Is So Long https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/why-the-hunza-live-longer-than-the-rest-of-the-world/ https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/why-the-hunza-live-longer-than-the-rest-of-the-world/#respond Fri, 08 Jan 2016 18:23:59 +0000 http://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/?p=9806 High in the mountains of northern Pakistan lies the Hunza Valley, a beautiful and ancient strip of land occupied by the Hunzakuts, or Hunza people, that is described as “heaven on earth.” The Hunza have lived in the area since the times of Alexander the Great and their feats of physical endurance have made them famous warriors and assassins. The Hunza Valley’s natural beauty and the long lifespan of its inhabitants have led to rumors that this is the site of the long-lost kingdom of Shangri-La. But why is the Hunza lifespan so long? The reasons below might shed some light on this mystery.

Sunrise at Hunza valley, Northern Pakistan
Sunrise at Hunza valley, Northern Pakistan

While the claims that Hunza live for 130, even 140 years are likely exaggerated, they still live an average of over 90 years. Compare that to the Western world’s lifespan of about 80 years, which is lower despite our obsession with youthful appearance and long lifespans. Although some aspects of Hunza life are a result of economic necessity, the Hunza, who have a high literacy rate and promote gender equality, may have something to teach us. Health Fitness Revolution conducted thorough research to determine why the Hunza’s idiosyncratic lifestyle has led them to lead longer, healthier lives. Here are 10 Tips we can learn from the Hunza people:

  1. Physical Activity: Average 15+ walking miles a day and going on long hikes in rough, mountainous terrain on a daily basis.
  2. Winter Diet: Cheese, yogurt, dry fruits, whole-meal bread, fresh butter, raw vegetables
  3. Summer Diet: Everything in their diet is fresh
  4. Heavily Mineralized Glacier Water: Drink an abundance of water that has a high mineral content
  5. Low Meat Consumption: Hunza rarely eat any meat and exist on mostly a vegetarian lifestyle
  6. Low Alcohol Consumption
  7. Fasting
  8. Apricot Kernel Juice: The Hunzas consume plenty of apricot kernel juice, which is high in vitamin B17. Their vitamin B17 levels are 200 times higher than the average American.
  9. Meditative Breathing and Relaxation: Meditation and stress-management are common parts of the Hunza’s lives. They regularly take the time to meditate and breathe, living in the present, thinking very little of the past or future.
  10. Caloric Intake Under 2000Kcal: The Hunza’s consume less than 2000 calories a day and use most of that for energy.

Becic’s challenge comes to light as Health Fitness Revolution non-profit movement launches their #PushUpsEverywhere campaign, an effort to promote a healthy and fit lifestyle.

The fitness expert’s challenge to the president is an homage for the American leader to set the standards for Americans.

“This challenges launches our campaign of doing push-ups everywhere, anywhere, at any time,” Becic said.

Health Fitness Revolution, a non-profit movement, named President Obama among the fittest heads of states in back-to-back lists.
2014 Fittest Heads of States
2013 Fittest Heads of States

Becic’s call to prioritize the obesity epidemic arrives as President Obama meets with the United Nations this week to discuss myriad global issues. Obesity can be as large a humanitarian concern as hunger and malnutrition due to the dire health consequences. Statisitics show by 2030, 51 percent of the population will be obese.

“Sixty to seventy percent of chronic illnesses are associated with obesity,” Becic said. “These numbers can prove fatal for the growth of humanity.”

The fitness expert commended First Lady Michelle Obama’s incentive to prioritize health in the United States. Her involvement in promoting health and fitness to all audiences established standards for a healthy lifestyle.

“But because this great nation is suffering so severely from the obesity epidemic, I would love for the president to lead this challenge,” Becic said.

While Becic challenges the President to 25 push-ups, he challenges the rest of America to do 10. He asks that viewers do their push-ups everywhere, anywhere, during any situation, and at any time. He says to then post the video, challenge two friends, and #PushUpsEverywhere.

Obesity’s Affect on Healthcare, Corporate Spending, Education and Homeland Security https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/obesitys-affect-on-healthcare-corporate-spending-education-and-homeland-security/ https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/obesitys-affect-on-healthcare-corporate-spending-education-and-homeland-security/#respond Fri, 28 Aug 2015 19:49:53 +0000 http://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/?p=8184 The obesity epidemic the U.S. is facing should be one of the primary concerns of the future president of the United States.

“This issue that is plaguing our nation should not be delegated to the second, third, or fourth in charge, but should actively involve the president themselves. Some presidential candidates are saying their spouses would be interested in promoting the health of this nation, insinuating that fighting the obesity epidemic would not be their concern” Samir Becic said. I’m strongly opposing this notion and this is my reasoning why:

“We are one of the most obese countries in the world, and statistics are showing that by 2020 over 75 percent of Americans will be overweight or obese. We must change this and to do this we need more than just policy and jargon – we need a leader, a president who knows the real issues concerning the health of America”.- Samir Becic

Obesity Rates Spike in America

An analysis conducted by the National Heart Forum found that by 2030, 1 in 2 people will be obese – not merely overweight, but obese. Considering 60 to 70 percent of all chronic illnesses can be linked to obesity, this is more than just a national problem. According to Trust for America’s Health, twenty years ago, no state had an obesity rate above 15 percent. Today, there are 41 states with an obesity rating above 25 percent. And since 1980, the rate of obesity in children and adolescents has nearly tripled.

Obesity a Big Factor in Healthcare Costs

Healthcare and healthcare reform are big issues in politics. The magic solution to these issues, however, is not rooted in subsidies, single-payer systems or the actual affordability of healthcare unique to every American – it’s in the individual health of Americans themselves. Ideally, the healthier you are or aim to be, the less you have to worry about chronic illnesses and injury, and by extension, the less you have to worry about healthcare costs.

Given the state of American health and the economy, obesity has taken more than a few dollars from Americans. Regarding health care costs, for every dollar spent on healthcare, $0.95 is spent on treatment; the other $0.05 is spent on preventative care. While that may not sound like much, in total, obesity-related medical treatment can cost up to $210 billion a year. Researchers estimate that if obesity trends continue, obesity-related medical costs could rise by up to $66 billion each year.

Comparatively, obese people spend 42 percent more on healthcare costs than those of healthy-weight. In fine numbers, per capita medical spending is about $2,741 higher for the obese than healthy-weight individuals.

Corporations Spend More Due to Obesity-Related Medical Concerns

Along with monetary concerns, obesity has played an active role in decreasing American employee productivity, discipline, focus, energy and even creativity. Corporations who provide benefits to their employees  with healthcare take a big hit as well.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the current annual impact of poor health costs Americans about $1.8 trillion. This number is a sum of costs concerning obesity-related job absenteeism ($4.3 billion annually) and various forms of medical care among other things, which is almost no surprise given than 80 percent of Americans work in jobs that require little or no physical activity.

All is not lost when it comes to healthcare reform, however. Statistics show for every dollar spent on wellness initiatives, corporations can save as high as $10 in costs amounting to obesity-related medical concerns in the private sector. In fact, medical costs fall by about $3.27 for every dollar spent on wellness programs – great news for the employee.

Perks go to the employer as well, as companies with wellness programs in place have an average 28 percent reduced sick leave and spend 26 percent less on healthcare costs. Additionally, the money corporations save as a result of implementing wellness programs could be used for improving the quality of the workplace, adding more employee benefits, or even increasing employee wages.

Childhood Obesity a Contributing Factor in Inhibiting Education Success

For children, obesity can play a vital role in that child’s academic success. Studies found that obese students – and especially girls – tend to have lower test scores than their slimmer peers, are more likely to be held back a grade and are less likely to go on to college.

The latest such study, published in the journal Child Development, followed 6,250 children from kindergarten through fifth grade and found that, on average, those who were obese scored lower on math tests than non-obese children.

Additionally, studies found that physically fit children had a 2.4 times greater chance of passing math tests and a 2.2 times greater chance of passing reading tests compared with aerobically unfit children.

According to a study in 2010 by the University of Pittsburgh, overweight people had four percent less brain tissue than people of normal weight, and obese people had eight percent less brain tissue than people of normal weight. These results are serious for children who are obese as a lack of brain tissue can result in a lower IQ, decreased attention span, impairment of memory functions and poor coordination.

In terms of costs, of the approximate $210 billion Americans spend on medical care due to obesity-related illnesses, childhood obesity alone is responsible for $14.1 billion in direct costs.

Annually, the average total health expenses for a child treated for obesity under Medicaid is $6,730, while the average health cost for all children covered by Medicaid is only $2,446.

Homeland Security at Risk Due to Rise in Obesity

While the United States continues to lead the world in military spending, the U.S. can’t deny how the rise in obesity has become a significant concern for national security. In fact, a 2010 report by mission readiness found that obesity is the leading medical reason why applicants fail to qualify for military serve – and no wonder, with 27 percent of Americans ages 17-24 – that is, 9 million young adults – cannot serve due to their weight.

The last time military leaders were active in the health young adults and its effect on the future of the U.S. military was during World War II, following the Great Depression.

Needless to say, this is a problem. Obesity does not affect us merely the obese with medical problems, but the entire country as well. We would do well to take care of this epidemic as we would any other – to inspire many to partake in regular physical activity and be conscious of their nutrition intake. Little steps we can take like drinking more water or going for a walk 20 around the neighborhood 20 minutes a day are significant lifestyle changes that can lead to a healthier, more enjoyable life.

  • If obesity rates stay consistent, by 2030, 51% of the population will be obese
  • Twenty years ago, no state had an obesity rate above 15%. Today there are 41 states with obesity rates over 25%, according to the Trust for American’s Health
  • Since 1980, the rate of obesity in children and adolescents has almost tripled
  • America is leading the world in obesity

  • Currently, 80% of Americans work in jobs that require little or no physical activity
  • Obesity-related job absenteeism costs $4.3 billion annually
  • $1.8 TRILLION is the current annual impact of poor health according to the US Department of Labor
  • Based on statistics, such as for every $1 spent on wellness initiatives, corporations can save as high as $10, we can conclude that healthy employees benefit the employer
  • Conversely, we can conclude that the money that corporations spend on employees’ unhealthy lifestyle is so high that it can determine the future existence of the company and standing of the employees’ job security
  • Medical costs fall by about $3.27 for every dollar spent on wellness programs
  • Companies that have wellness programs have 28% reduced sick leave and 26% reduced health care costs
  • On the other hand, if the company did not have such astronomical health costs, that money could be used for improving the quality of the workplace, more benefits for the employees, and possible higher income.

Obesity’s impact on homeland security

  • The rapid increase in the national prevalence of obesity from 15% in 1980 to over 30% today and overweight from 50% to 68% is affecting America’s ability to defend itself militarily
  • In fact, today, obesity is the leading medical reason why applicants fail to qualify for military service
  • Since 27% of young people aged 17 to 24 are too heavy to serve in the armed forces, obesity is quickly becoming a significant national security concern
  • The fact that current and retired military leadership has called obesity a serious national security threat warranting immediate action reflects the gravity of the issue
  • The last major example of the military becoming involved in nutrition in America was during World War II. Military planners were keenly aware that the health of school-aged children would have a bearing on the fitness of future military recruits

  • For every $1 spent on healthcare, $0.95 is spent on treatment and only $0.05 spent on preventative care
  • Obesity-related medical treatment costs between $147 and $210 billion a year, or nearly 10 percent of all annual medical spending

  • Childhood obesity alone is responsible for $14.1 billion in direct costs
  • Annually, the average total health expenses for a child treated for obesity under Medicaid is $6,730, while the average health cost for all children covered by Medicaid is $2,446
  • In 2010, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office reported that nearly 20% of the increase in U.S. health care spending (from 1987-2007) was caused by obesity
  • Annual health costs related to obesity in the U.S. is nearly $200 billion, and nearly 21% of medical costs in the U.S. can be attributed to obesity
  • Researchers estimate that if obesity trends continue, obesity related medical costs, alone, could rise by $43 to $66 billion each year in the United States by 2030
  • Per capita medical spending is $2,741 higher for people with obesity than for normal weight individuals

Obesity’s impact on education

  • Overweight people had 4% less brain tissue than people of normal weight, and obese people had 8% less brain tissue than people of normal weight. These results are serious for children who are obese
    • loss of brain tissue results in less brain to think with resulting in a lower IQ;
    • there is a loss in the ability to regulate attention so a child at school is not able to remain focused long enough to absorb any information so less learning is taking place
    • long-term memory is impaired so there is limited retention of what he does manage to learn;
    • and now the child is also clumsy, because basal ganglia are all clogged up causing a loss of coordination.

Our founder Samir Becic even released his 2016 Presidential Hopeful Fitness Reportcard.

While a race in politics is not to be taken as a literal test of physical prowess, that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t. One of the most pivotal issues in American politics right now is healthcare and with obesity and chronic illness on the rise, Health Fitness Revolution found it necessary to break down the presidential candidates in terms of their political issues regarding health and fitness as well as their personal health.

“The president’s job is a very stressful one that requires him or her to be on duty 24/7. The stress that they are exposed to can affect their health so drastically that if they don’t maintain a healthy lifestyle, they can be subjected to any number of chronic illnesses – both physical and mental,” said HFR Founder and renowned fitness expert Samir Becic.

“Our future president will have much more competition than the previous presidents because of where the modern world is heading – and against other leaders whose views differ, such as Russia’s President Vladimir Putin.” – Samir Becic

The speech urged audience members to wake up to health, incidentally the name of the challenge Shemek issued. The challenge is a mid-year challenge to compliment Lakewood Church’s annual January Health and Fitness Challenge.  This is the second week of the five-week challenge.

Becic motivated his audience by saying fitness starts somewhere. “You’re not expected to go into the gym and be an immediate expert,” Becic said. “You have to work yourself up!”

The statement proved motivational. The crowd was electrified with energy and inspired by both Becic and Shemek.

Why is America So Fat? https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/why-is-america-so-fat/ https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/why-is-america-so-fat/#respond Tue, 14 Jul 2015 16:32:34 +0000 http://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/?p=7232 The U.S. is a major world leader in technology and science, military strength and global economy. We are innovators, creators, revolutionaries – whether it be in space technology, computer science or in medicine, America has left its mark in history. And while American names dominate the list of Noble Peace Prize winners in medicine, we also lead the first world in the frequency of diseases associated with obesity such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, depression, and cancer. So why is America so fat?

So, how is it that obesity has become such an epidemic in our great nation?

As Americans, we live in a culture of excess, no matter what class we may be in. We are surrounded by it everywhere we look. It is in our government, our families, the places we shop and eat, and even in the bodies of our fellow Americans, our children, and our loved ones. We live in a country that strives to be the best, have the most, and do the most with it, but this is not always a blessing. In some ways, it has become a curse.

We should be asking ourselves why it is normal to have 30-50 oz “big gulp” sodas at our rest stops, why kids are rewarded in school with class pizza parties, why television shows glorifying consuming excessive quantities of fast food are so popular, and why validating people for being unhealthily overweight is encouraged in American culture.

You could blame it on the foods we have here in the states: the fast food chains around every corner, the prevalence of chips and soda in the grocery store shelves, the  culture of cheap and instant gratification, but the problem lies further back than that. The problem lies in the reason why all of these unhealthy industries have emerged, and how they have become successful.

The problem lies in the heart of our American culture.

So, we should be asking ourselves, where does this fat culture come from? It’s not just innately in the air around us; it has to have a root.

The root of our obesity epidemic is interwoven with the history of our country. We are a nation born in financial distress as we separated ourselves from the British. We have suffered several devastating economic downturns, and through them our citizens have learned the importance of wealth and stability. Our nation learned two things through times of financial distress that apply to today’s obesity epidemic. First, we learned a lot about hunger. Everyone, even those who had money before, felt the bite of hunger and learned what it felt like to be without. Everyone came out of economic depressions and recessions vowing to never allow themselves to be in that position again. Second, we learned to market that hunger and that distress into something we could make money off of.

Our culture of excess deeply values displays of wealth. This not only makes us over-eat, but it makes us wasteful and lazy. We see our neighbors pull out of their driveways in luxury cars just to go down the street. We hire people to do manual work for us because we don’t want to do it ourselves. We become too obsessed with money to take off work for a half-hour workout.

Over the past 30 some years, obesity rates in American adults have doubled. Obese Americans now even outnumber merely overweight Americans. Along with these rates, rates of deaths attributable to obesity have dramatically increased.

Are we too cowardly to step up and change our future? Are we too caught up in our personal and work lives to set examples for our children? Does adding fourteen years to our lives that we can spend with our loved ones not sound appealing to us?

Health Fitness Revolution challenges you to wake up from the routine of your life and change your body and mind as well as those around you.

People are impressionable. This is the reason why our gluttonous American culture has infiltrated so many of our lives so deeply. However, you can use this impressionability to influence people to live healthy and fit lifestyles. In doing this, you will better lives and help to end premature deaths due to diseases associated with obesity.

When you make a change for yourself, you can change the world around you.

Screen Shot 2015-06-26 at 12.09.04 PM

Becic congratulated the instructors, calling them leaders in implementing health and fitness with kids. There were approximately 20 Coordinators in the room, many of whom had chosen to work with HealthCorps because they witnessed the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle. Their experiences ranged from first-hand family trials to having a desire to understand the mind-body relationship.

To help spread that message, he trained the peer-mentors – called HealthCorps Coordinators – on several different ReSync Method techniques, emphasizing body resistance.

Screen Shot 2015-06-26 at 12.08.47 PM

Though Becic applauded the HealthCorps Coordinators for their inspiring work, he hoped they would challenge themselves to be better than who they think they are.

“If you’re going to teach the value of hard work and fitness, you have to follow them yourself,” he said.

The coordinators all appreciated the intrinsic value and effectiveness of the ReSync Method for both themselves and the students they teach.

“Being idle has imperiled our children.  In fact, this may be the first generation of children who won’t outlive their parents.  To combat this problem, I’ve declared war on childhood obesity!  This is an issue everyone can back.  This is not a democrat or republican issue, it’s a kids’ issue and every governor I’ve met with has vowed to work with me to put an end to this growing problem.  I’ve always said that academics and fitness go hand-in-hand and I firmly believe that if you provide the schools with the tools, students will excel beyond their wildest dreams and this program is proving me right!“

America is one of the greatest nations in the world and should be the healthiest nation in the world—the model for healthy living around the globe. But the unhealthy lifestyle of many Americans and the alarming rates of obesity among youth prove otherwise. The Health Fitness Revolution, a movement spearheaded by the Samir Becic Foundation, is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to making America a healthier nation.

By bringing together thousands of people in the community, the Health Fitness Revolution aims to change the way people think about health and fitness, incorporating proper exercise and nutrition practices into the very fabric of family and society.

At the heart of the Health Fitness Revolution is the ReSync Method — a world class training philosophy that uses the body’s own resistance to increase balance, strength and speed. The ReSync Method teaches families how to exercise together, without the need for expensive gym memberships and dangerous fitness machines, as a way to build stronger, healthier families.

The Health Fitness Revolution will achieve its goals by arming Americans with tools to live a healthy lifestyle. Through a variety of channels in the community, like schools, churches, community centers and corporations, the Health Fitness Revolution will host events and workshops to educate children and their parents about the fundamentals of physical fitness and nutrition.

Health Fitness Revolution by the Samir Becic Foundation is a IRC 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Fighting Homelessness with the ReSync Method https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/fighting-homelessness-with-the-resync-method/ https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/fighting-homelessness-with-the-resync-method/#respond Wed, 26 Feb 2014 23:34:47 +0000 http://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/?p=9314 Health Fitness Revolution believes that when people are taught healthy lifestyle, that the benefits radiate to every aspect of their lives and manifests itself not only as good health but also as financial, emotional, and psychological successes.  For this reason, HFR visited Magnificat House in Houston, TX, which was founded to serve the most abandoned and neglected of our society — those who are deprived both mentally and socially, leading to homelessness.

We are excited to announce that the founder of Health Fitness Revolution, Samir Becic, is spearheading a new program that will implement healthy lifestyle in Houston’s homeless community in order to improve their healthy lifestyle through physical exercise. This program is very dear to his heart because it involves people who have nothing and he feels that they can get a sense of purpose through taking their health into their hands.  It will improve their discipline and accountability so that some of them may begin having a normal life again.

At the core of this program is his signature ReSync Method which requires no equipment, just the body’s own resistance. Through years of training experience, Samir was able to create a simple program that can be done anywhere, at anytime. Given that the homeless population does not have access to traditional gyms, the ReSync Method is a perfect way to train them to maintain a healthier lifestyle.

Today was Samir’s inaugural visit to Magnificat House and it went great! We are happy to share some of the pictures with you!

Samir Becic and HFR Team Influencing Texas Association for School Nutrition https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/samir-becic-influencing-texas-association-school-nutrition/ https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/samir-becic-influencing-texas-association-school-nutrition/#comments Mon, 24 Feb 2014 18:28:09 +0000 http://healthfitnessrevolution.com/?p=2334 Health Fitness Revolution is excited to announce that our founder Samir Becic was a main speaker at the Texas Association for School Nutrition Industry Seminar on January 31st 2014 in Galveston, TX.

Samir and Health Fitness Revolution have a tremendous amount of respect for educators and school nutritionists and the role they play in a child’s future.  Many of the core values and lessons we learn through life can be traced back to our educators, what they taught us, and how they treated us.  This is the reason that HFR travels around the world to educate teachers and professors on how to provide the right encouragement and direction to students with regard to health, fitness, and nutrition.

By getting proper training, nutritionists can actually help their students grow into the powerful young leaders of tomorrow, while imparting the core values that our non-profit represents- health, fitness, life balance, perseverance, hard work, determination, and respect.  We aim to devise programs and seminars that incorporate education, fun, activities, and new concepts that teachers and professionals can use to arm their students with the best knowledge and education available- so that they can reach their ultimate potentials in taking control of their health as they grow into their adult lives.

For more than 20 years, TASN has undertaken a certification program to help school nutrition professionals continue their education and reach career goals. College courses, workshops sponsored by the Texas Department of Agriculture, and TASN training seminars can be used toward certification. These programs not only improve the value of service to school children, but they enhance members’ earning potential and career development.

The 2014 TASN Industry Seminar will take place January 29 – 31, at the picturesque Moody Gardens Hotel/Resort in Galveston, Texas. Directors and Industry members are invited to participate. Attendees will have the opportunity to share ideas, network, and attend breakout sessions to enhance their professional skills.

There is an alarming crisis is looming in the pews of churches across America. In fact, statistics suggest that the church today may indeed be in worse condition than the general population. A 2006 Purdue study found that the fundamental Christians are by far the heaviest of all religious groups led by the Baptists with a 30% obesity rate compared with Jews at 1%, Buddhists and Hindus at 0.7%. Similarly, a 2011 Northwestern University study tracking 3,433 men and women for 18 years found that young adults who attend church or a bible study once a week are 50% more likely to be obese.

Here are Health Fitness Revolution‘s Top 10 Health Tips for the Christian Community:

  • Spirituality: Spiritual awareness is one of the key components of healthy lifestyle that impacts the whole body and rejuvenates the spirit. Physical fitness and healthy nutrition allows that spirit to flourish to new dimensions and many people experience a closer relationship to God.
  • Education:  Education is one of the most important aspects to changing your life.  Knowledge is the ultimate power when it comes to healthy lifestyle because it helps people in making healthy decisions and empowers them to take control of their lives.
  • Balance: A major component to healthy lifestyle is balance.  Knowing that happiness is good for your healthy, getting a healthy support system and friends, and indulging occasionally.
  • Physical Activity:  The best way to burn calories and fat!  It doesn’t have to be a crazy workout routine that is intimidating, it is best to start with walking for 30 minutes 3 times a week. Just start moving a bit more during the day.
  • Healthy Nutrition:  What we put in our bodies as fuel is fundamental to being healthy.  Start by cutting out sodas, drinking more, water, adding more fresh vegetables and fruit to your diet.
  • Positive Attitude/ Motivation and Accountability:  There are days it is going to be frustrating to switch to healthy lifestyle – which is why positive attitude is so important.  Realize that you are human, and keep yourself motivated to stay on this amazing, healthy path.  Accountability is also very important – knowing that ultimately you are in charge of what you put in your body and how you use it.  Accountability will keep you motivated.
  • Family Unit:  As a family, you can all keep each other on path and motivate each other through the tough days.  The family unit is very strong, and can be your best support system – and you can also motivate your family to be healthy with you!
  • Media Support:  The media needs to start promoting real healthy lifestyle programs instead of quick weight-loss programs that do not work long-term.
  • Government Support:  The government needs to promote more activities for our children, and make being an active a priority in our lives.  Healthier citizens would put less strain on their countries economies.
  • Vision:  There need to be a healthy, natural, balanced vision that influences people’s ideals of health and fitness.  Finding a vision that positively influences the health industry long-term.

Samir Becic New Years Resolution https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/new-years-resolution/ https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/new-years-resolution/#respond Mon, 30 Dec 2013 13:41:10 +0000 http://healthfitnessrevolution.com/?p=1969 When I first moved to America in 2000 from Munich, Germany, I began working for Bally Total Fitness, which, at the time, was by far the biggest fitness organization in the world. I began my career as a fitness trainer because George Hains, the regional supervisor, believed in me and gave me a chance. Three months later, I was promoted to head trainer, a previously non-existant position that was created for me. I decided at that point that I wanted to become the No. 1 trainer in the world for Bally’s, a position that had never been held by someone in Texas. When I told my supervisors, they were a little skeptical and told me that, although an admirable goal, if it was even possible to achieve, it would have to be in January, when Americans dedicate themselves to their “New Year’s Resolutions.”

For the past 12 years, I always hear that people are going to get in shape in January. At the same time, for the past 12 years, the obesity rate in America has increased from 24% to 34%. A 2007 study by Richard Wisemen from the University of Bristol involving 3,000 people showed that 88% of those who set New Year’s resolutions fail, despite the fact that 52% of the study’s participants were confident of success at the beginning. This statistic motivated me to break this pattern and begin the Health Fitness Revolution! For me, New Year’s resolutions when it comes to Health and Fitness – or anything else, for that matter – begin every day when you wake up. We don’t need to wait until January to start working on your health and fitness, but instead maintain a healthy lifestyle that is an important part of our daily lives.

What do I mean by healthy lifestyle?

Healthy lifestyle is not solely about losing weight, or feeling stronger, or being more conditioned, or eating properly. Rather, it is a combination of all of the above, and it is a about decreasing, managing, or completely avoiding 60-70% of known illnesses:

  • Heart disease and stroke
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Certain types of cancer
  • Non-insulin dependent diabetes
  • Obesity
  • Back pain
  • Osteoporosis
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Sleep deprivation
  • Psychological illnesses

These specific benefits are the reason I started the Health Fitness Revolution.  Locally, the goal of this challenge is to help Texas become a healthier state (currently the 13th fattest state in the nation), make Houston a fit city (the current fattest city in the US), and decrease child obesity (32%). Our ultimate goal is to get at least 100 million people healthy and fit worldwide. In order to accomplish this, we need GREAT supporters and believers in a healthier and fit America.

I need your help in order to accomplish these goals, and I’m asking all of you to join in this great Challenge in order to make an impact. A group of individuals with a cause has always been stronger than a lone person – which is why the more friends, family, and co-workers who join Health Fitness Revolution, the more we can make a strong impact on society. Even those individuals who have already adopted healthy lifestyles need to join by spreading their knowledge and motivation to loved ones around them, so that our community grows healthier, fitter, and stronger as a whole. Let’s make Houston and Texas a leading force in conquering the disease that is threatening to destroy American society. I’m not asking you to join to make Houston one of the fittest cities, or Texas one of the fittest states, but to get healthy for yourselves and your children to make the country as a whole fitter and healthier.

To finish up my personal story and journey to becoming Bally’s No. 1 Fitness Trainer in the world – I did accomplish it in the middle of the following year, not during the January/February high personal training season, as my supervisors suggested. I accomplished it with my ReSync Method and by believing that New Year’s resolutions are every day when you wake up. This philosophy led me to obtaining my goal four times in my career at Bally’s – more than any other trainer in the history of the organization. I also accomplished being No. 1 fitness trainer in Texas 22 times, and No. 1 fitness trainer in Houston 29 times – with the same mentality that goals are created and achieved year-round, not just once a year.

HFR loves when corporations and employers care about the health, fitness, and wellness of their employees!  We firmly believe that more companies in America should follow suit on the wonderful example that McKesson is setting.  To read about the benefits of health and fitness in corporations, please read our article here.

Samir Becic to make Fitness Documentary! https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/health-fitness-revolution-featured-documentary/ https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/health-fitness-revolution-featured-documentary/#respond Fri, 25 Oct 2013 16:02:27 +0000 http://healthfitnessrevolution.com/?p=1748 Samir Becic is taking the journey of health and fitness to an even more personal level and has started directing, and producing a documentary together with his friend Vassily, a Hollywood veteran. So we are making a fitness documentary.

The film will follow the struggles, obstacles, joys, and successes of five individuals to give a real, raw, and inspiring insight into the full transformation of integrating a healthy lifestyle.  The documentary will follow Samir’s training philosophy by teaching, inspiriting, and motivating the movie participants in a truthful account of the journey they face.

The idea behind this movie is to bring light to how obesity is plaguing the United States and much of the world.  With his experiences in over 20 years in the fitness industry, Samir will uncover some of the deep rooted secrets and issues behind the health and fitness industries.

This will be the first installment of 3 movies that we at Health Fitness Revolution believe will change the way health and fitness is viewed in the world.  Everyone who knows Samir knows that he never gives up and what he touches turns to gold. More details to follow…

HFR and Samir Impact Houston Homeless https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/hfr-visits-magnificat-house-homeless-shelter/ https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/hfr-visits-magnificat-house-homeless-shelter/#respond Tue, 22 Oct 2013 15:27:52 +0000 http://healthfitnessrevolution.com/?p=1091 Health Fitness Revolution believes that when people are taught healthy lifestyle, that the benefits radiate to every aspect of their lives and manifests itself not only as good health but also as financial, emotional, and psychological successes.  For this reason, HFR visited Magnificat House in Houston, TX, which was founded to serve the most abandoned and neglected of our society — those who are deprived both mentally and socially.

Magnificat House offers hope and refuge to the destitute by providing homes where people of different mental abilities, social backgrounds, religions and cultures, can live together in community.  They aim to create a bridge to the outside world and the confidence necessary to cross it.

Part of crossing this bridge is teaching the guests at Magnificat House to take care of themselves with regard to their health, nutrition, and fitness.  Health Fitness Revolution and Samir hopes to aid Magnificat’s noble efforts by visiting them monthly for group fitness, motivational seminars, and nutrition classes!

Please visit http://www.mhihouston.org to find out more about the wonderful work they are doing in the community.

John Gray Weight Loss with Samir Becic https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/transformation-john-gray-samir/ https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/transformation-john-gray-samir/#respond Mon, 21 Oct 2013 16:10:59 +0000 http://healthfitnessrevolution.com/?p=1722 Samir Becic, creator of the ReSync Method is thrilled to be collaborating with Lakewood Pastor, author, and comedian John Gray in his journey to become healthier, and fitter, so he can inspire and motivate people around the world to follow in his courageous steps.

John Gray is very determined and in order to make this experience a family event, he is involving his wife Aventer who is his strongest supporter.  This aligns with Samir’s philosophy that in order to become healthier, it is much more productive to have the entire family included in the process.

John Gray is tired of being physically unhealthy, and that is his strongest motivation.  Over the next few months, the goal at Lakewood is, through his transformation, to motivate thousands within the church, and millions worldwide.  He will act as a great ambassador for how healthy lifestyle can transform your life, health, and make you spiritually stronger.

This collaboration came to fruition through the Men’s ministry leader, John Bowman, who was pivotal in introducing John Gray to Samir Becic and had the vision that this would be a great success.  John Bowman and Samir started the annual Lakewood Health and Fitness Challenge at Lakewood Church in 2012.

Samir is currently leading a Healthy U Class at Lakewood Church under the spiritual mentorship of Pastor Steve Austin, also a health enthusiast.  The Healthy U class is held every Sunday at 10 a.m. in room 3001A where Samir and his team Rudy, Kimberly, and Derek welcome you to join and transform your lives.

Pastor Joel Osteen is a very fit person who encourages his congregation to live a healthier lifestyle – he believes that by being a healthier version of yourself, you can become all that God has created you to be.

Balkan Health Statistics Intro https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/balkan-health-statistics/ https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/balkan-health-statistics/#comments Thu, 05 Sep 2013 15:39:41 +0000 http://healthfitnessrevolution.com/?p=1495 Considering that I come from the Balkan region of Europe, I had Health Fitness Revolution– the movement I started in the US- do detailed research on the countries that are part of the Balkan peninsula.  We had a tough time finding statistics and facts on health and fitness within this region, which tells me how little emphasis is put on healthy lifestyle culturally.

Healthy body, healthy mind- therefore, I hope that with this research we can help this region, which already has so much rich history and culture, to improve their healthy lifestyle and create balance not only within themselves, but also their countries.  With this introductory research, Health Fitness Revolution is starting the “Balkan Project” which will aim at educating, empowering, and emphasizing healthy lifestyle in the Balkan region- with emphasis on ex-Yugoslavian countries.  Later this year, we will release the Part I research that will be detail on how to improve healthy lifestyle in Balkan countries through physical fitness, healthy nutrition, and social/mental balance.

According to the World Health Organization, all of the countries in the Balkan region have less than 5% below the minimum level of dietary energy consumption- meaning that less than 5% of the population’s food intake falls below the minimum level of dietary energy requirements, and who therefore are undernourished or food-deprived.  This means that Balkans have no need to worry about starving and wasting away- simply put, they are eating too much.

Another interesting fact is that most Balkan countries, excluding Greece, in terms of BMI, tend to fall in a very stable and comparable range of 23 to 24.9.  Research published in the Daily Mail Newspaper shows that the country with the highest BMI in both men and women is Greece with 28.0 and 27.0, respectively.  The countries with the lowest BMIs for men are Macedonia and Romania at 23.9.  The country with the lowest BMI for women is Romania at 24.2.  Among the countries in former Yugoslavia, Slovenia is the highest BMI, which weighs in at 26.5.

Food consumption refers to the amount of food available for human consumption as estimated by the FAO Food Balance Sheets.  According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN, the average minimum daily energy requirement is about 1800 calories.  Within the Balkan region, Greece has the most calories available to them at 3700 and the countries with the least are Serbia and Montenegro with 2700 calories available daily. In the former Yugoslavian countries, Slovenia is the highest with 3200 calories and Bosnia is a close second with 3100 calories.

In 2007, Forbes published a list of the fattest countries- Greece came in as the fattest country in the Balkan region with 68.5% of its population either overweight or obese.  The slimmest countries in the region are Bosnia-Herzegovina with 53.8% and Macedonia with 47.2% of the population overweight or obese.  The fattest country from ex-Yugoslavia is Slovenia with 59.8% of the population overweight or obese .

According to the CroHort Study, which studied the incidence of obesity in Croatia over a 5 year study, the average annual rate of increase in the prevalence of obese adults between 2003 and 2008 was 10.60% for men and 11.08% for women. This analysis can be applied to all the former Yugoslavian countries because it showed that development of obesity in 5-year period in women is significantly positively associated with frequent consumption of “hidden” fats of animal origin and significantly negative with each higher education level.  The study concluded that obesity remains a serious health problem for the Balkan population; the alarming rates of excess body weight continue to increase and that preventive measures should urgently be undertaken.

Life Expectancy as calculated in the CIA Fact Book, gives the Greek (80 years) and the Albanians (78 years) the longest life expectancy.  The lowest life expectancy in the region is 74 years in Romania and Bulgaria.  The highest life expectancy among the ex-Yugoslavian countries is Slovenia (78 years), the lowest is Serbia (75 years).

Hygiene is an important part of health, we wrote an article about it here.  The countries with the best access to sanitation are Bulgaria and Slovenia with 100% of the population having access, the worst is Romania with only 72% of the population having access to sanitation.  Among the ex-Yugoslavian countries other than Slovenia, are Bosnia and Croatia with 99% population access to sanitation- the worst is Macedonia with 88%.

Medical doctors are part of a healthy lifestyle, which is why we included this statistic in our research.  The country with the most doctors is Greece, with 6 per 1000 population- the worst is Albania with 1.15 doctors per 1000 population.  Among the former Yugoslavian countries, Croatia is the best with 2.6 doctors per 1000, and the worst is Bosnia with only 1.42 doctors per 1000 population.

The human body is made 68% of water- which is the reason that drinking water is a key component of health (we wrote an article about it here).  According the the World Health Organization, most of the Balkan Peninsula has excellent access to drinking water, especially the countries from ex-Yugoslavia, with all of them having a range of 98-100% of the population having access to clean water.  The only two countries in the region that fall short are Romania, with only 84% of the population having access to clean water and Albania with 95%.

Samir Becic on Front Cover of Houston Chronicle https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/samir-becic-front-cover-houston-chronicle/ https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/samir-becic-front-cover-houston-chronicle/#respond Fri, 30 Aug 2013 16:07:27 +0000 http://healthfitnessrevolution.com/?p=1482

Bosnian-born personal trainer takes holistic approach

Samir Becic won’t try to sell you any pills or powdery supplements, special athletic shoes, high-tech gadgets, gym memberships or food plans to help you get fit.

What this determined personal trainer will do is get you to think the way he does: that smart fitness, good nutrition, social well-being and some form of spirituality can change your body, maybe even change your life – just the way it has changed his.

Becic was born in Kjluc, Bosnia, and lost much of his family in the ethnic cleansing of that country’s civil war in the early 1990s. He and his family fled to Germany, but Becic never stopped dreaming about America, where he hoped to someday make it big like his hero Arnold Schwarzenegger, the Austrian bodybuilder-actor-politician.

“I woke up one morning, and they had killed 300-400 people. I knew at least 80 percent of those people. My uncles, my cousins, my friends and neighbors were gone,” Becic said. “Where is God, I thought? I stopped socializing with anyone. I focused only on school and training.”

By 2000, Becic was done dreaming and ready to start life in his adopted country, the United States. He was born on July 4, 1976, the 200th anniversary of American independence, a fact not lost on him.

Becic arrived with a plan to enroll in college – he excelled in school as a youth, he said – but he quickly ran out of money. He’d trained in martial arts and boxing, so he found a job at a Bally’s gym, where he worked as a personal trainer.

He worked his way up the ranks and was recognized many times as a standout trainer and supervisor, he said. Throughout that time, Becic was focused on helping others gain strength and good health naturally. No steroids or supplements, and no rigorous workouts using massive weights.

Today he uses those methods – he calls it ReSync – with private clients and in corporate settings to inspire people to use good, old-fashioned exercise and healthful foods to eliminate chronic disease and live happier, more productive lives.

On weight loss and diet, Becic said he prefers to teach his clients good nutrition and why we should eat more healthful foods.

His website lists the top 20 items that should be in your kitchen: coconut water, avocados, 100 percent whole grain bread, apples, spinach, almond butter, Greek yogurt, oatmeal, 70 percent cacao dark chocolate, 100 percent whole grain pasta, almond milk, green tea, lemons, lean meats, fish, frozen berries, nuts (almonds, pecans and walnuts), free-range eggs, herbs and spices to use in place of salt, and tofu.

For exercise, he takes a broad view.

“Bodybuilders use these big weights and barbells, but the motion is very limited,” Becic said. “My method uses more overall muscles, and the movements are using much more of the body, so that the whole body, all of the muscles, get worked and strengthened.”

Instead of weights and barbells, Becic shows clients how to use body mass to gain strength, endurance, flexibility, mobility and improve cardiovascular health.

If you’re looking for dramatic change or an overnight fix, Becic isn’t your guy. His philosophy is that people starting a fitness routine should work with a fitness professional and move slowly to avoid injury.

He’s also started the nonprofit Health Fitness Revolution to take his health initiative into churches, schools, prisons and even homeless shelters.

“I want to teach parents that if they are physically fit and eat healthier, then they feel better, they do better at work and do better at home, are better parents. They have more time for their kids. They are more patient with their kids. Then the kids mimic what their parents do,” Becic said.

The personal trainer volunteers at Lakewood Church by bringing the Healthy Fitness Challenge, and he hosts a radio show at 5 p.m. Mondays on KSBJ, urging listeners to stick to their current spiritual routine, to do what feels good. “My spiritual practice, philosophy, is to give. I feel like I was given so much that I now want to give it back,” he said.

In addition to ReSync and the Health and Fitness Revolution, he works with several high schools and a university in Mexico City. He and his wife, Dijana, are also about to become parents for the first time.

“(Becoming a parent) is an overwhelming feeling at times because I don’t know what to expect,” Becic said. “I am excited that I will have somebody who will continue my family name. I know it will change me forever, and maybe that is what scares me – although I am certain it will be in a good way.”

Lakewood’s Healthy Living Class with Samir Becic https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/lakewood-church-healthy-living-class/ https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/lakewood-church-healthy-living-class/#respond Sun, 11 Aug 2013 21:15:59 +0000 http://healthfitnessrevolution.com/?p=1399 Samir Becic, creator of the ReSync Method and founder of Health Fitness Revolution, and his Lakewood team are making a strong impact in America’s largest mega-church- Lakewood Church!  They have an ongoing Healthy Living Class that meets weekly on Mondays from 8:30-9:30 pm.  Starting September 22nd, the class will be held on Sundays at 10 am after the first service and before the second service to be more accessible to the Lakewood Congregation.  The classes will be very educational and inspirational in terms of healthy lifestyle and spiritual balance.

In January 2012, Lakewood held it’s first annual Health and Fitness Challenge- one of the first of it’s kind of any mega-church in the US.  Joel Osteen is considered one of the fittest pastors in America, and felt strongly about influencing his congregation in a positive way, to enhance their health and physical fitness.  The Lakewood Leadership entrusted Samir to use his expertise in devising a program that would engage the members of Lakewood to become proactive with their health.  To do so, Samir put together a strong team of experts in fitness, nutrition, and spirituality to aid the congregation of Lakewood in becoming more educated in terms of healthy lifestyle.

Since then, many other churches have followed suit in creating Health and Fitness Challenges. This, in itself, is a testament to the power of changing lives through health and fitness that incorporates spiritual balance.

“With Lakewood, one of the largest churches in America putting so much effort into the health and fitness of its congregation, it is a great motivation and influence for other congregations to follow. I am thankful to Pastors Joel and Victoria Osteen and their congregation for giving me their blessing to use my knowledge and experience to provide the information and guidance necessary to make this challenge a success to all the participants involved. It also helps that Pastor Joel Osteen is a very fit person who encourages his congregation to live a healthier lifestyle – he believes that by being a healthier version of yourself, you can become all that God has created you to be.”

– Samir

We are extremely excited to be planning the 2014 Lakewood Healthy Living Challenge, which will be a continuation and progression of the original Health and Fitness Challenge.  We will be involving many celebrities to share their experiences and knowledge about healthy lifestyle.  Very soon, we will be able to give more detailed information about the Project!

The ReSync Method Explained https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/the-resync-method/ https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/the-resync-method/#respond Sun, 11 Aug 2013 20:45:27 +0000 http://healthfitnessrevolution.com/?p=1401 A Revolution in Fitness

Samir Becic is dedicated to creating a better, healthier society through his revolutionary training method. While working as Fitness Director at Ballys, Samir educated thousands of clients and hundreds of trainers and noticed an increasing number of people who were injuring themselves at the gym, despite the supervision of professional personal trainers—he knew there needed to be change in the way fitness training was conducted. This lead Samir to develop the ReSync Method so that anyone would be able to effectively train without the risks associated with machine-based training regiments.

Simple and Effective

The power of the ReSync Method comes from its simplicity—you use your own body and little else. Every muscle in the body can be trained by the body’s own movement and natural resistance, which makes the ReSync Method a perfect option for anyone who doesn’t want to spend hours in the gym or invest in costly and heavy machines. And since the ReSync Method utilizes the body’s natural resistance, it is ideal for couples, friends and families who want to spend time together working out.

Clients and trainers who have experienced the ReSync Method have consistently touted the method as indisputably more effective than traditional gym training because it utilizes muscle synchronicity, functionality, and basic exercises.

The ReSync Method has been proven not only by athletes and advanced clients, but also by clients newer to training and even those with limited range of motion and mobility. Very often, professional athletes have increased their performance while training under Samir because the ReSync Method allows them to push their bodies to their full potential without overdoing it, as they are controlled by their own body restrictions.

By using the synchronization of the body’s muscles, the ReSync Method effectively improves:

  • Strength
  • Strength endurance
  • Cardio
  • Flexibility
  • Balance

And, best of all, the ReSync method connects all these components into one very simple, very effective, fun workout.

HuffPost: America and the War on Obesity https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/huffpost-america-and-the-war-on-obesity/ https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/huffpost-america-and-the-war-on-obesity/#respond Mon, 17 Jun 2013 11:30:10 +0000 http://healthfitnessrevolution.com/?p=883 Health Fitness Revolution is proud to announce that our founder, Samir Becic, has been featured in The Huffington Post!  Here is the article as originally published on Huffington Post:

Regardless of where you stand politically, there is no denying that America’s recent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have thrown forward countless stories of heroism and examples of individuals who are ready to step up for the cause.

There is another important war that Americans have been engaged in for some time now, at home, which is in need of some heroes. That’s the war on obesity, especially in children.

Most of us know the grim statistics — almost 36 percent of Americans are obese (17 percent of children aged 2 to 19) , $147 billion is spent every year on health problems related to obesity (forecasted to rise to $343 billion in 2018), and if you add overweight people to the computation two in three Americans has a distorted Body Mass Index (BMI).

Fortunately, some folks — in government, not-for profits, and business have decided that it is time to fight the fat.

Recognizing that healthy habits are formed early on, the White House Task Force on Child Obesity launched the Let’s Move campaign in 2010 aimed at not just promoting healthier food consumption in children but also encouraging them to adopt a more active lifestyle. Chaired by the First Lady, Let’s Move has won some important early battles: 5,000 schools now meet health nutrition and fitness standards, and collaboration with the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association will lead to the creation of “Play Streets” in 10 cities where streets will be closed to traffic so kids can run, walk, bike, or play.

Children are also the focus at hip beverage retailer Jamba Juice. Their Team Up for a Healthy America campaign revolves around asking people to make a pledge to eat and live healthier. In return for every pledge Jamba Juice would donate $1 for purchase of athletic equipment in schools. The company has already donated $100,000 and estimates that 15,000 students have benefited from the equipment purchased.

Shape Up America (SUA) is a not-for-profit focused on raising awareness about obesity and providing information on healthy weight management. Founded in 1994 by Dr. C Everest Koop, — the 13th Surgeon General of the USA and a man widely credited with changing public perceptions about smoking — the organization is most famous for its Cyberkitchen program. Enter details like age, height, gender and activity level on their website and the Cyberkitchen will not only calculate your daily calorie goal, but also recommend a range of meals that will help you meet this goal.

Bosnian-born Samir Becic calls America home. An acclaimed martial arts and fitness expert-turned-entrepreneur who once headed the fitness program at a large American fitness chain, it pains him to see the unhealthy lifestyle many American adults lead. This motivated him to develop the ReSync Method, a fitness regime that simulates natural body movements, and exercising the whole body at once. Not just content with teaching this method, Becic founded a not-for-profit Health and Fitness Revolution, which organizes events like the eight-week Health and Fitness Challenge in Houston, aimed at changing people’s lifestyles. “The idea is to fight the war on obesity in a very positive way” says he.

That positivity seems to be yielding results. In 2010 the announcement by 16 food and beverage companies that they would reduce 1.5 trillion calories in the U.S. market by 2015 was met by overwhelming skepticism. Incredibly, the goal was met this year, two whole years ahead of the plan.

Hopefully, such examples motivate many more Americans to join this fight and the nation can still beat what is literally one of the biggest challenges facing it.

Samir Becic ReSync Method Revolutionizes Physical Fitness https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/818/ https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/818/#respond Tue, 11 Jun 2013 18:47:34 +0000 http://healthfitnessrevolution.com/?p=818 by Frank Bergman

If you’ve been out and about walking around your neighborhood, you might have noticed the large number of exercise enthusiasts jogging and working out. After months of being winter hermits and sitting around without exerting our bodies, people are enjoying the warm weather and sunshine and getting into shape.

Since obesity has become an epidemic in the United States and Canada, health researchers, media outlets and industry professionals have been urging everyone, especially children, to start exercising because of the various health benefits – indeed there are more than just physical advantages of moving around.

If you’re addicted to the sofa and eating potato chips then perhaps you should start pushing yourself to walk, jog or run and lifting some weights. Let’s face it. The warm weather doesn’t last long enough and before you know it it’s going to be cold and miserable outside again.

Samir Becic wants you to work out and get into shape. One way by doing this is through Becic’s ReSync Method, an innovative training method that uses the body’s own resistance and minimal weights to achieve your health and exercise goals. First created by Samir Becic, the method has proven to be effective and is in the midst of patenting the regimen.

So, who exactly is this Samir Becic anyway? Becic is a physical fitness professional that started his career in personal training shortly after moving to the United States. Throughout his career, Becic has established new training techniques for his vast clientele. He is also an expert in the field of Martial Arts.

For many years now, Becic has been lauded for his achievements and fitness acumen. The fitness guru was named one of America’s Top 100 Fitness Trainers by Men’s Journal. He has garnered numerous awards, distinctions and honors, such as being a 55-time No. 1 fitness trainer in the city of Houston, the state of Texas and in the world.

A lot of people have taken notice of Becic’s sublime accomplishments. Many businesses, schools and non-profit organizations have tapped Becic to deliver speeches at different kinds of events and meetings to speak on motivation and physical fitness.

Mainstream media outlets have already profiled and interviewed Becic, including FoxNBC and radio stations.

Becic has an impressively large list of personal training clients: NBA legend Rudy Tomjanovich, TV host Deborah Duncan, Lakewood’s Victoria Osteen, TV anchor Dominique Sachse, TV host Kim Davis, TV reporter Miya Shay, Radio DJ Sam Malone, Radio DJ Roula Christie, Radio DJ Dana Tyson, Radio DJ Coppelia Rivera and Radio DJ Joey Kovacik.

Recently, Becic was chosen to be a judge for the Kick Start Kids Program. For the last little while, Becic has entered the realm of philanthropy and has decided to use his skills to benefit others. This is why he started his very own non-profit organization called The Health and Fitness Revolution.

Becic understands that physical fitness can do a lot more for you than just looking like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. It also has the ability to improve cognitive performance, lighten up your mood and even reducing the risk of getting Alzheimer’s disease.

Joel Osteen Fitness Program Headed By Samir Becic https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/samir-impacting-joel-osteens-lakewood/ https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/samir-impacting-joel-osteens-lakewood/#respond Sun, 26 May 2013 10:00:19 +0000 http://healthfitnessrevolution.com/?p=671 Samir Becic, founder of Health Fitness Revolution, and his Lakewood team are making a strong impact in America’s largest mega-church- Lakewood Church!  They have an ongoing Health and Fitness Class that meets weekly on Mondays from 8:30-9:30 pm. Joel Osteen fitness program at Lakewood is a great way to merge spiritual health with fitness.

In January 2012, Lakewood held it’s first annual Health and Fitness Challenge- the first of it’s kind of any mega-church in the US.  Joel Osteen is considered one of the fittest pastors in America, and felt strongly about influencing his congregation in a positive way, to enhance their health and physical fitness.  He entrusted Samir to use his expertise in devising a program that would engage the followers the Lakewood to become proactive with their health.  To do so, Samir put together a strong team of experts to aid the congregation of Lakewood in becoming more educated in terms of healthy lifestyle.

Since then, many other churches have followed suit in creating Health and Fitness Challenges, including Rick Warren at Saddleback Church who was consulted and supported by Dr. Oz. This, in itself, is a testament to the power of changing lives through health and fitness that incorporates spiritual balance.

“With Lakewood, of the largest churches in America putting so much effort into the health and fitness of its congregation, it is a great motivation and influence for other congregations to follow.

Fitness Guru Samir Becic Pushes ReSync Method https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/fitness-guru-samir-becic-pushes-resync-method/ https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/fitness-guru-samir-becic-pushes-resync-method/#comments Mon, 29 Apr 2013 17:51:45 +0000 http://healthfitnessrevolution.com/?p=514 A new study by Abby King, professor of health research at the Stanford University School of Medicine, concluded that exercise should be the first step to physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle. Although previous studies have shown it’s best to change your diet and exercise simultaneously, if you lack the time then exercising is the best thing to do.

“It may be particularly useful to start both at the same time,” said King in a press release. “If you need to start with one, consider starting with physical activity first.”

With the arrival spring, it would be a perfect time to start considering being more physically active rather than a hermit, a regimen that seems to be promoted and endorsed by Old Man Winter. Indeed, with sunshine and warm temperatures, it would be a perfect time to get into shape and rejuvenate one’s mind, body and soul.

ReSync Fitness is aiming to get men, women and children to work out through the ReSync Method, an innovative training method that uses the body’s own resistance and minimal weights to achieve your health and exercise aspirations. It even allows you to save some cash because you won’t have to join a gym. The procedure was first produced by Samir Becic and has become quite effective that he is patenting the workout.

Who is Samir Becic? He is a fitness guru that was named one of America’s Top 100 Fitness Trainers by Men’s Journal. The physical fitness professional is an expert in Marital Arts and started his career as a personal trainer after arriving in the United States. Throughout his distinguished career, Becic has received a number of awards, distinctions and honors. Some of these include being a 55-time No. 1 fitness trainer in the city of Houston, the state of Texas and in the world. Because of these amazing accomplishments, businesses of all sizes and non-profit organizations have invited him to deliver speeches at various events and get-togethers.

The avid exerciser was recently a judge for the Kick Start Kids Program. Becic also made the decision to look for philanthropic endeavors as well as starting his very own non-profit organization: The Health and Fitness Revolution.

Physical fitness can do a lot more for you than just looking great, having a six-pack and gaining some muscle. Studies have listed a variety of benefits: a reduced risk of contracting Alzheimer’s disease, improving cognitive performance and having a better mood.

Is Becic the best in the world when it comes to fitness training? That’s what a lot of his clients attest to. Go get healthy, America.

Resync Method Seminars

For over a year, Becic has been traveling to various schools throughout Mexico City in order the motivate them and educate them on his signature ReSync Method. The ReSync Method is unique in that it uses the body’s natural range of motion and resistance in order the get stronger, faster, and leaner. Because functional range of motion is at the root of every exercise, those who train using the ReSync Method notice significant results beyond those of simply training at the gym.

Samir has been training students, teachers, and parents alike in the ReSync Method so as to lay a solid foundation for a child’s world to be as healthy as possible.

Samir always aims to devise programs and seminars that incorporate education, fun, activities, and new concepts that teachers and professors can use to arm their students with the best knowledge and education available- so that they can reach their ultimate potentials in taking control of their health as they grow into their adult lives.

For this reason, he was selected to open the Grupo Educativo School Olympic games in Mexico City where he has already educated over 10,000 children about healthy lifestyle, fitness, and it’s impact on their future in terms of career, education, self-esteem, family life, social, and mental balance.

Samir Becic
Fitness expert
Creator, Health & Fitness Revolution

Samir Becic is a man on a mission. His quest: to make Texas one of the fittest and healthiest states in the country by 2015. It’s a tall order, especially with Texas holding five of the top 10 slots in last year’s “Fattest Cities in America” rankings, but if anyone can make it happen, it’s Becic.

Not only has he received several honors as Bally’s “No. 1 Fitness Trainer in the World,” but Becic’s energy and enthusiasm for leading a fit and healthy lifestyle are nothing short of contagious. With the establishment of his national movement, Health and Fitness Revolution (HFR), he is leaving no stone unturned, traveling to big cities and small towns all across Texas to offer seminars, health fairs and educational materials to various schools, corporations, organizations and even politicians.

“What I want to do for Texas is change the unhealthy obesity pattern that has come to light and give people an inspirational outlook when it comes to health,” Becic said. “Becoming healthier is a life-changing journey that becomes contagious when shared.”

Becic’s goal of reintroducing the fundamentals of physical fitness and nutrition to people in Texas is a small step in taking his HFR to a national scale. But he believes it can be done.

“In a state that can offer so much positivity and possibilities,”he said, “there needs to be more of a health awareness that focuses on the betterment of everyone, spanning from the young generation to the retired one.”

Michele Johnson, MD
Neurosurgeon
Memorial Hermann Mischer Neuroscience Institute

Dr. Michele Johnson is quite a unique individual in her field. As one of the very few female neurosurgeons in Houston, she has dedicated her career to treating and improving quality of life for patients with herniated discs, Parkinson’s disease, brain aneurysms and spine injuries.

Even while juggling the duties of work and being a mom with a 16-month-old son, she enjoys every minute of her long days in the O.R., which often involve treating trauma patients.

“The biggest reward of my job is giving someone a better quality of life, and sometimes even saving their life,” Johnson said. “It’s amazing to be able to help someone walk when they were just in a crisis situation. I consider it a privilege to operate on someone’s body, help them feel better and make their pain go away.”

Now in her fourth year at Memorial Hermann, Johnson wears many hats in her job. In addition to serving as medical director for the neurosurgery clinic at the Mischer Neuroscience Institute, she is also the director of the spine program and an assistant professor for neurosurgery at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, where she mentors a number of residents.

Johnson’s continued dedication to the field has led to her current involvement in a clinical trial on a drug used to treat patients with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease), and her career goals include a more in-depth look at how to better treat patients in neurosurgery.

“Tragedies occur unexpectedly, and I want to make sure I do the best that I can to help someone who is injured in those situations.”

Kwak

Larry Kwak, MD, PhD
Cancer researcher
MD Anderson Cancer Center

As a student in high school, a young Larry Kwak was introduced by his mentor to the idea that one could harness the immune system to fight cancer. The notion struck a chord in Kwak’s mind, and from that moment, he committed to a life of studying how to make it happen.

“That idea was the spark that ignited an underlying passion in me to take an idea from laboratory testing and see it all the way through to its first in-human clinical trial,” Kwak said. “That bench-to-beside approach was the dream and aspiration for my career, to make the discovery in the lab and then take it to the hospital room and offer it to patients.”

After a 20-year pursuit of cancer vaccine research, Kwak saw the idea become a reality with his creation of the BiovaxID lymphoma vaccine, an agent that helps patients manage their disease more effectively.

His findings from a Phase 3 trial presented in 2009 showed that the patient-specific vaccine prolonged the dormant state of follicular lymphoma in patients, with some staying in remission for several years. This breakthrough, along with Kwak’s 20-year dedication to the field, earned him a nod as of Time Magazine’s “100 Most Influential People in the World” in 2010.

“When I came home and told my kids about being named to the list, their reaction was, ‘Why would anyone work on the same problem for 20 years?’” Kwak said with a laugh. “But I think it’s a tribute to my persistence.”

Health reporter
ABC – Channel 13

For the past 24 years, Christi Myers has become a recognizable face in medical and health reporting for the city of Houston.

Whether she’s covering a story on where to find the latest medical treatments and procedures in town or traveling the world to report on medical practices for the military overseas, Houstonians are sure to receive up-to-the-minute news with her “Health Check” reports. She’s even willing to dig into the investigative side of exposing the dangers of bacteria and chemical pollution in the most common of places.

While her career has covered a full spectrum of informative health-related features and human-interest stories, the topics that she feels have the most impact on the community are those that relay helpful tips to viewers.

“I like reporting on topics that are new or different,” Myers said, “especially when it involves simple advice that people can use in their everyday lives to stay healthy. I think that’s what everyone finds most helpful.”

In her career, Myers has received 11 Emmy nominations and won a regional Emmy for her story on a father who donated part of his liver to his infant son. Her commitment to the health community even prompted the start of two citywide donor drives, one of which was a bone marrow drive that found a match for a 67-year-old leukemia patient. If all goes well, that patient could possibly receive his long-awaited transplant this month. It’s these kinds of stories, Myers said, that make her job a rewarding one.

“I love what I do because I really believe that it makes a difference in people’s lives,” she said.

Samir Becic On The Cover Of Undefeated https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/samir-becic-on-the-cover-of-undefeated/ https://www.healthfitnessrevolution.com/samir-becic-on-the-cover-of-undefeated/#respond Wed, 03 Apr 2013 04:15:52 +0000 http://healthfitnessrevolution.com/?p=1205
1) What is your Professional and Educational background?
Educational background is physical education and business and Professional is being an athlete and a health and fitness expert.  I am currently the CEO of Eurofit.

2) What is your biggest accomplishment in sports and in life?

Up until now, the biggest professional accomplishment was winning 4 times the #1 Best Personal Trainer in the World and US, 22 times #1 in Texas, 29 times #1 in Houston for Bally’s Total Fitness.  Men’s Journal voted me top 100 fitness experts in America and Top 10 in weight loss and martial arts in United States. But  my biggest accomplishments are yet to come, because I aspire to change the world in health and fitness.

3) What one or two things do you currently do in your training that is keys to your success?

The Resync Method I developed, using the body’s own resistance to achieve results.  The risk of injury is between 200-300% less and the results are 30-40% faster.

4) What would you say is your ultimate achievement?

My ultimate achievement is yet to come. I would like to educate people around the world in health and fitness and to succeed in that.

5) How do you set your goals? Where do you see yourself in 5 and 10 years?

In 5 to 10 years, I see my method being spread around the world because it is convenient, effective and very different from training methods that are popular today.

6) What is your biggest challenge, and what did you do to manage this challenge?

My biggest challenge was the  perception of how fitness professionals are viewed by the average person.  The average person expects a fitness expert to look like a professional body builder.  This is a very unhealthy view of what the body should actually look like when it is healthy and fit.  I overcame it by broadcasting my views in my seminars, tv, radio, and print media that a fitness and health professional should be educated, taken seriously, and promote a body type that can only be achieved through natural means, with training and proper nutrition.

7) What is your daily training and diet?

I personally exercise 2 – 2.5 hours a day, 5 days a week. I do not believe in a structured diet, but I follow my healthy nutritional guidelines by eating more nature – made food and less processed foods: I eat grilled meat and vegetable, I avoid fried foods; I avoid processed/ simple sugars, and focus more on complex carbohydrates, lean meats, lots of fruits and vegetables, organic when possible.  I eat 5-6 small meals a day, drink 1 gallon of water a day. I maintain a positive attitude in my life.

8) What is 1-2 things do you believe differentiates you from your contemporaries who have tailed off in their athletic participation and abilities?

I view fitness and health as a lifestyle that I intend on maintaining for the rest of my life.  I have been in sports all my life, and it is what fulfills me.  I want to spread the news that with a healthy lifestyle, including fitness and nutrition, we can avoid, manage, or control 75% of existing illnesses.  That message drives me!

9) Do you have any recommended resources to share (books, seminars, websites, and coaches)?

Every magazine, tv station, and newspaper have a section devoted to educating the masses on being healthy.  We should be open-minded to the 21st century health and fitness resolution that is coming.  There has never been more available information than right now on educating oneself to be healthy and fit.  Anything anyone does to educate themselves, whether it be on the internet, a book, or a trainer, is a step in the right direction to bettering themselves.

10) Have you experienced a breakthrough, and if so, what led to it?

Yes, when I actually realized that people with a healthy lifestyle and proper nutrition can cut their medication by 75%, and some completely.  The happiness on their faces when they achieve their goal of becoming happier, healthier, and more fulfilled.  2 months ago, my own father had a blockage in his artery.  I put him on an exercise and food regimen that led to him losing 25 lbs and avoiding major surgery.  This breakthrough made me realize that this is what I want to be fighting for, and the message I want to be spreading.

11) What was the best advice you were ever given?

Never say never! Anything is possible.

12) Do you have a saying or motto that you live your life by?

I live my life by working hard, as if I were to live forever. I enjoy my life and maintain my positive attitude to the fullest, in any given moment.

13) Where do you draw your inspiration from?

Several things inpire me on a day-to-day basis:

When I see elderly people being active, maintaining a joy for life, and still having dreams.

When I see a young person being a great student, listening to their parents, and being a positive change in their generation.

When I see parents educating their children in making healthy choices and being a constructive part of society, so that each generation improves on the last.

14) Do you ever plan to retire?

Knowing my personality, I intend on spreading my message forever.

15) Anything else you’d like to share?

I would like for more athletes to be positive role models to children and society in general. I would hope that athletes and politicians assume their responsibilities as role models and become more conscious of their decisions and how they affect other people’s lives.

16) What Certifications do you have?

Fitness Trainer Certification AAAI/ISMA

Master Fitness Trainer Certification AAAI/ISMA

BTF Master Trainer Certificate

Master Trainer Bally’s/NASM

And Many others…

17) How do you keep your fitness knowledge up to date?

I am in touch with major universities across America and the world that do major research on the human body and fitness.  I continuously read to educate myself and have performed my own controlled studies to develop my methods.

18) Why do you want to be a personal trainer?

An educated fitness expert with a natural philosophy can change a person’s health, life, and mindset more than one could imagine. Over my career, I educated several hundred trainers for Bally’s Total Fitness, and my own company, and I found that very fulfilling by being able to directly and indirectly change someone’s life for the better.

19) What is your personal experience with fitness and working out?

I was a martial arts athlete my entire life, and then became a fitness expert through my training experiences and professional accomplishments.

20) Are your certified internationally?

Yes

21) How do you find new clients to train?

My clients recommend me to other clients.

22) Why should I work out with a personal trainer?

Because an educated personal trainer, with a natural philosophy can improve your health, make you live longer, and feel more alive. They should help you maintain a positive and healthy outlook on life, so a happier, healthier society can be created.

23) What about any recent business ventures? and for the future ventures that you are planning

My recent business venture is being part of a national tv show, The Perfect Gentleman.  I plan on writing my second book and becoming active in media to promote healthy lifestyle.

24) How did u first got started in the business?

Being an athlete was my first taste of the business. Later when I moved to the US, it became my career because it was my passion.  There is nothing I would rather do than this.

25) Do u have any currents projects you working on?

I am trying to improve myself on a daily basis, which is a constant, lifelong project.

250 million Americans don’t have a healthy lifestyle, and that is my biggest concern.  Right now, America is the most overweight nation in the world with a rate of 31% people being obese.  They say in 2015 75% of American’s will be obese.  360 000 Americans die every year from being obese and not having a healthy lifestyle.  I say this needs to be stopped, America is the greatest nation in the world and should be the healthiest as well, given all the resources and possibilities available here.  We are leaders in the world when it comes to democracy, military, and individual freedoms, there is no excuse to not be leaders in healthy lifestyle.  I say that by 2015, we should be the fittest nation in the world, and we will be!  America wake up, it’s time to be fit and healthy!  This is the perfect opportunity, with the start of the new year 2011, to upkeep the health resolutions. Remember, a new years resolution is every day when you wake up.
